Congratulations Gareth on your amazing performance at the Brighton Marathon

Our amazing Physio Gareth Crankshaw has just taken part in his first ever marathon – and he smashed it! Gareth ran the Brighton Marathon on 2nd April and he finished the race in the fantastic time of 2 hours and 57 minutes. This means that Gareth was 148th runner to finish of the 8397 runners that took part in the race that day.

This isn’t the only race that Gareth will be running. On 2nd October he will be running The London Marathon. Gareth will be raising money for the charity Children with Cancer at this race. Watch this space to find out how you can support his fundraising activities.

Gareth will be following his training schedule over the next few months to allow him to recover from the Brighton race and prepare for the London Marathon. Gareth and his colleagues at Keith James Physiotherapy have a great deal of experience of helping runners to prepare and recover from all sorts of races – from Parkruns to ultramarathons.

If you are thinking of running a race this year, why not contact us to see how we can help you to achieve your goal. We can provide physiotherapy, massage and personal training to get you in the best shape to meet your challenge.

Updated Covid-19 Advice for Patients (April 2022)

Here at Keith James Physiotherapy, we maximise the safety of our patients and staff by following ongoing advice given from Public Health England and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy following the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Please do not come into the clinic if you are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19. The recently updated list of symptoms includes:

  • a high temperature or shivering (chills) – a high temperature means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
  • shortness of breath
  • feeling tired or exhausted
  • an aching body
  • a headache
  • a sore throat
  • a blocked or runny nose
  • loss of appetite
  • diarrhoea
  • feeling sick or being sick

We continue to take measures to protect our staff and patients at the clinic, including:

  • We ask you to arrive at your appointment time and not any earlier.
  • Patients should come to their appointment alone (unless they are a child or require a carer).
  • Please use the hand sanitiser to and from entry to the clinic.
  • Please minimise your contact with handrails and furniture.
  • Please wear appropriate clothing for your appointment. Patients with upper limb issues should wear a vest top and patients with lower limb issues should wear loose fitting shorts.
  • We have staggered our appointment times to reduce waiting room traffic.
  • Staff ensure all clinic areas are cleaned regularly with disinfectant and between patients.

As always, you can be reassured we are staying up to date with advice and guidance on best practice. Should you have any concerns or queries, please contact us on (0117) 330 6820 or email [email protected] for more information.

New additions to the KJP Team

We are excited to announce a number of new additions to the team at Keith James Physiotherapy.

We have three new Physiotherapists: Will Adams, who joined us in December 2021, and Agnés Canadell and Zaheer Hussain, who have just taken up posts at our clinic. Agnés will be taking over from Giles Head and will be working on Tuesdays and Fridays. Zaheer will be with us for the next 6 months to provide maternity cover for Katherine and Sara, who are on leave until later this year. You can find out all about our three new Physios here.

We can also announce two new additions of a different kind. Katherine and Sara’s babies are the youngest additions to the KJP Team. Katherine’s baby, Freddie, was born on 24th December and Sara’s little girl, Naia, arrived more recently, on 7th March. We wish them both many congratulations.

Along with the arrival of new faces at Keith James Physiotherapy, we have said ‘Farewell’ to a much-loved colleague, Giles Head. After many years at KJP, Giles has now moved on to a consultancy-based role.

Giles became part of the KJP team back in 2000, when he first joined services with Keith as Head Academy Physio at Bristol Rugby Club. Over the following 22 years, Giles was a loyal and experienced physiotherapist who made an enormous contribution to the clinic. He provided effective and reassuring physiotherapy to the many patients who came to see him and he was a real pleasure to work with. Keith is still very much in contact with Giles, both professionally and socially – and we would all like to take the opportunity to wish him well in his new ventures.

If you would like to book an appointment to see any of our team, please call the clinic on (0117) 330 6820, email [email protected] or book online at www.keithjamesphysiotherapy.co.uk.

Show some love! Treat yourself or a loved one to a relaxing massage

It can be hard to know what to buy as a gift for your loved ones. At Keith James Physiotherapy, we have the perfect solution. Why not treat your loved one to a relaxing Sports Massage? You can purchase a voucher that entitles the recipient to a 40 minute Sports Massage at our clinic. Vouchers cost £40 each and can be purchased by calling into the clinic, emailing us at [email protected] or by giving us a call on (0117) 330 6820.

Massage is a fantastic gift. Our Massage Therapists, Kirstie and Kate, take the time to understand what it is that each patient is looking to gain from their massage appointment. For some, the emphasis is on reducing tension and promoting relaxation. For others, massage is an important aspect of an exercise programme and can be used to prepare for, or recover from, a sporting event. Other patients use massage to help them to seek relief from aches, pains and injuries.

And we know how important it is that we show ourselves some love and look after our own bodies. So perhaps you should book yourself in for a massage as a Valentine’s treat too!

Job Opportunities for Physiotherapist Roles at KJP

Due to an increase in patient numbers and an increase to our opening hours, we are looking to recruit self-employed Physiotherapists to join our busy, friendly practice. We are a long established MSK clinic with an ethos of providing patient orientated physiotherapy with good manual skills and targeted rehabilitation. We have a spacious and airy clinic with 5 treatment rooms and a comprehensive rehabilitation gym.

We are looking for bright, enthusiastic individuals who, ideally, are 3+ years qualified, with experience of private practice. They should be clinically competent, have good manual and people skills and enjoy working as part of a team.

Hours can be flexible, as we are currently looking to fill 2-3 roles on a full time/part time/6-month maternity cover basis. There is also the option to work some evenings and the occasional Saturday.

This is a great opportunity to progress your career at a well-established clinic. Keith James Physiotherapy has been one of Bristol’s leading providers of Physiotherapy services for 30 years.

Changes to COVID procedures: temperature checks no longer required

Following the guidance released from the government on 5th August 2021  and current guidance on safe and mandatory practice from our professional bodies, we will no longer be carrying out temperature checks for staff, patients and visitors to our clinic.

However, all staff will continue to use PPE, and we request that all patients and visitors continue to wear a face covering when visiting the clinic.

Please do not hesitate to speak to us if you have any queries about this. Many thanks for your continued understanding.

Keeping our patients and staff safe

In February, the Government set out its roadmap, a step-by-step plan to ease restrictions in England. As of today (19th July 2021), the Government has moved to Step 4 of this plan, meaning that most legal restrictions to control COVID-19 have been lifted (see here for more information).

However, at the present time, we at Keith James Physiotherapy feel that it is important to maintain our existing procedures in order to keep our patients and staff safe. Therefore, we will be asking you to continue to wear a mask while you are in the clinic and to wear gloves in our gym. All of our staff will continue to wear PPE and to follow the hygiene procedures that have been in pace during the pandemic.

For further information on our guidelines for patients, please visit www.keithjamesphysiotherapy.co.uk/updated-coronavirus-advice-for-patients-july-2021.

If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to give us a call on (0117) 330 6820.

Celebrating 30 years of Keith James Physiotherapy

2nd July 2021 is a special date for us. This is the date that marks 30 years of Keith James Physiotherapy.

It was back in 1991, when Keith was working as an NHS Physiotherapist at Southmead Hospital, that he was offered the opportunity to do some work at a Physiotherapy Clinic based at Redland Tennis Club. As this work developed, Keith was invited to take over the business from the previous owner and Bristol Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic became Keith James Physiotherapy.

As well as running his own Physiotherapy Clinic, Keith has also worked as Physiotherapist for two local sports teams – Bristol Rovers and Bristol Rugby.

Since 1991, the business has gone from strength to strength and, needing more space, Keith James Physiotherapy moved to the present premises on Coldharbour Road in 2001. This has enabled the development of a multidisciplinary team that includes Physiotherapists of various specialities (MSK, Neurophysiological, Respiratory, Orthopaedic), Massage Therapists and Personal Trainers, a Podiatrist, and an Acupuncturist.

Today, we take a moment to celebrate the achievements of Keith and all the colleagues who have worked with him over the last 30 years. The KJP team are always striving to deliver a great service to the many patients who come to see them with aches, pains, and injuries. We look forward to more years of providing our patients with the high standard of treatment that comes from 30 years of expertise in Physiotherapy.

If you would like to see one of our therapists, please call (0117) 330 6820 or visit www.keithjamesphysiotherapy.co.uk to book online.
